Formal/organised surveillance

E-mail Print PDF
Formal or organised surveillance is where indiviuals employed by an organisation formally participate in surveillance as part of their employment. They may be dedicated security staff or employees that have a minor surveillance role as part of their duties.

Formal (or organised) surveillance is also provided by local stakeholders (e.g. shop keepers, security guards).

The State Government's 'Eyes on the Street' program encourages and enables state government agencies, local governments and businesses to identify and record possible criminal activities and suspicious behaviour to report to police.

Security guards have long been used to reduce crime and can help to prevent it.
