Access control

E-mail Print PDF
Access control is a Design Out Crime and CPTED technique to reduce criminals access to crime possibilities.

Access control is a CPTED concept focused on reducing opportunities for crime by denying access to potential targets and creating a heightened perception of risk in offenders.

Access control strategies can be informal/natural (e.g. spatial definition - separation), formal/organised (e.g. security personnel) and mechanical (e.g. locks and bolts) (the latter two are discussed under the sub headings surveillance and target hardening respectively).
