This section contains some images of pedestrian access ways (PAWs) in suburbs shaped by early development prior to the insitutionalisation of urban planning in the mid-1950s. These suburbs are typically walkable with layouts based on simple geometry(e.g rectilinear) or shaped by pathways of prior use. Examples in clude areas of Fremantle and Perth and some informally planned coastal suburbs such as Quinns Rocks where layout is shaped by prior paths and dunes. In these intrinsically walkable suburbs, PAWs are used to resolve occasional accessibility issues and to provide ready access to the beach and shops.
