New walkable suburb PAWs

E-mail Print PDF

This section contains some images of pedestrian access ways (PAWs) in recently designed walkable suburbs planned and built mainly since the turn of the century. These suburbs are deliberately planned round the use of PAWs to be pedestrian frindly and walkable. Typically, CPTED issues are considered in their design although not always to best effect. In some cases, PAws are tightly integrated with street footpaths to the extent that the boundary is blurred.  Some of these pedestrian frindly/ walkable suburbs are designed to geometric road plans. Others are more organic. The layouts of these walkable suburban design forefront PAWs (over car-transport) as the primary access to  public transport, shops, schools, public space and other services.
